Civil War Model 1860 Cavalry Saber by Ames Dated 1863. This sword saw service. Original leather and wire 95% and still tight, a few functional “rattle dents” applied to the scabbard. Scabbard has toned to a nice brown, blade is a freckled mix of gray with some bright still present. Original leather throat washer is still present. Ames stamping is light, but can be made out under magnification, obverse of blade clearly stamped “US” “1863” “DR” (DR being Daniel Reynolds – an inspector at Ames). A nice solid wartime dated and used example at a very reasonable price – check some of the Civil War dealers online for an Ames and compare prices!
